2015
Spring
Amazing calves by Vitulus Exceptionabull on the ground. Very light framed initially but then they grow like weeds with beautiful fronts and strong spines, great legs and feet and length of hip. Some absolutely stunning heifers and a couple of bull calves that take my breath away even at this age.
Winter
Not much happening, endless feeding out, whingey cattle and regular minus 5 degree C days at Steels Creek. Decided to switch Steel's Creek cows to spring calving to be in sync with the rest of the herd, so bulls on holiday in July. The conditions are just too tough through winter and a lot of pasture improvement is underway.
Autumn
Sold heifers to Matthew and Kylie Jacobs of Bullock Creek Stud, near Bendigo. This young couple represent the future for Lowline cattle, young members with enthusiasm in spades and a genuine commitment to the breed.
Cows calved at Steels Creek in April. All calves are by Tarrawarra Australis. Even when injured he managed to get them all. Seriously chunky, heavily muscled calves without exception. Aussie has done it again!
Again we took animals to Ballarat Rural Lifestyle Expo, We were located beside Ballarat Grammar who had cows, calves and a bull on display. There did not seem to be as many people through the cattle area as last year, still inquiries kept us on our toes and a lot of ALCA showbags were handed out.
Summer
We are busy preparing for Beef Week 2015 and the stud will be open on Saturday 31st January from 9:00am til 6:00pm

2014
Spring:
In late November we artificially insemminated twenty cows to Vitulus Exceptionabull and two to Ardrossan Jamberoo so the drop in Spring 2015 is looking very exciting.
Spring was very busy with cows & heifers calving to Aussie & Barak at both Steel's Creek and at home. The result was some fantastic calves. and we are delighted with both bull's progeny. Hopefully we will be able to show some of these calves in 2015
Autumn: Our cows at Steel's Creek calved to Ardrossan Wizard, over April/May. Wizard is a Vitulus Yes Yes Yes son and was winner of his bull class in the 2013 On Farm Challenge. This young bull has a big frame and a fantastic nature so we were very excited to see what he produced and we were not disappointed. His calves are heavy bodied, leggy and all have really lovely heads and toplines. Most importantly they are lovely and quiet.
We took three animals to the Ballarat Rural Lifestyle Expo on April 5th. A very early start, loading animals in the dark and finding that one of the heifers prepared for the event had pink eye. With some trepidation we decided to take another heifer who had minimal handling and agreed that we would leave her in the truck if she proved too much trouble. We need not have worried she was an angel. We took two heifers Tarrawarra Camille, Tarrawarra Callista and the young bull Chunky Moves. There was an enormous amount of interest in the Austrailian Lowline cattle on display. We were located beside Ballarat Grammar who presented a team of animals with great professionalism and enthusiasm. A large number of Lowline Promotion show bags were handed out and demand was so high that we ran out before the end of the day. The two heifers sold on the day to John & Elisa Borg from Waterloo, neasr Ballarat
On the long weekend of April 25th we entered a number of animals in the Southern Region Promotional Group (ALCA) ON FARM CHALLENGE. 85 animals from 14 studs across Victoria were entered in the competion. Our bull calf Tarrawarra Chunky Moves won his class, Bull under 12 months, Tarrawarra Barak came second in the Bull over 12 months and under 24 months class and Tarrawarra Charlotte came second in the Heifer under 12 months class
Summer: Tarrawarra Lowlines exhibited animals at the multi-stud display at Lardner Park, Warragul for Day 5 of Beef Week. We took 3 newly broken in youngsters, one bull and two heifers. These babies had never been on the truck and had been broken in over the 2 ½ weeks before the event. They behaved beautifully but it was a hot day and an early start and by mid afternoon both cattle and humans were over it, however we stayed until closing at 6:00pm.
Urila Stud from Merricks also exhibited animals and Bill, Hilary & Lisianne were a great help to us on our first public outing. Jeanette and Peter Stebbins from Ardrossan Stud also attended to man the Southern Regional Promotional Group display and to lend support to ourselves and the Beltons. Their support was wonderful and greatly appreciated (especially as they drove 5 hours to get there after touching down from their American trip on the Thursday).
Eleven Studs exhibited at Lardner and breeds included Angus, Limousin, Murray Grey, Simmental, Red Poll and Australian Lowline. Visitor numbers were down this year possibly due to the weather and fire danger but there were some sales on the day and a number of genuine enquiries. The event provided great experience for us and our cattle and as result we will take some animals to the Ballarat Rural Lifestyle Expo on the 5th April 2014.
